GOOD DAYS
There is only one week left of summer vacation for the kids and oh my god I can't wait until they're back into regular routines again. No more sleeping until noon, no more playing games all damn day, back to real life! Is it evil of me to be glad that school is starting? I really wish both kids had gotten summer jobs this summer, I feel like it would have made a big difference.

Pretty soon we have to start getting serious about Martin's future: college applications, scholarship searches, financial aid research...aagh! I can't believe he's going to be 18 so soon. I can't believe this is his senior year! I can't believe that, if he gets into college in Canada or the US like he wants, that he'll be gone in a year. I can't believe life as we know it will be coming to an end so soon. I DON'T WANT TO BELIEVE THAT.

Well, we'll see. After all, he has to apply first. And get accepted. And figure out how to pay for it. Maybe he'll still be at home next year. Maybe he'll NEVER MOVE OUT.

I don't know which to be more freaked out about. Haaa!

It's been a lovely sluggy weekend. The weather has been nice and Anders finished the mountain bike he built. He went immediately to try it out on a new mountain bike track at Skryllegården and promptly broke the chain, so he's back at it in the garage. Last night the whole family went to see Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. It's the first time in ages we've been to see a movie together as a family. I liked it, which surprised me, but Anders fell asleep twice! Hard to believe, watching Tom Cruise hang from the side of that airplane and dash around London like a teenager that he is the same age as my husband. Martin says he no longer believes they are impossible missions and that they should change the name of the franchise. There was a trailer for The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and now I want to go see that.

Today has been really relaxing: sleeping in (the kids weren't the only ones, haha), lunch, some cleaning. I've sorted through all the bins that hold winter accessories and piled everything on the laundry room counter: gloves, scarves, hats, shoes. Sometimes I wish I could just purge things without having to ask everyone what they want to keep. The house would be much less cluttered if I could just throw away everything I think is unnecessary.

Anders and the kids went shopping this afternoon. I wasn't allowed to go. :D They are at the grocery store getting something for dinner now and I am hanging out on the porch, watching the butterflies and the breeze and reading the end of my book.
Tomorrow most of my team is back from vacation and I sincerely hope that means more to do.

Haha! I just turned on Spotify to listen to music and one of the kids is online, which means a spotify war. I started playing Katie Melua and someone keeps changing to Bajs i Bastun (Poop in the Sauna). Heee!

Happy Sunday!

Oh, my, the thought of Martin being 18 is rather mind-blowing. Where in the US/Canada is he thinking that he'd like to attend college? Or is he just intent on studying "abroad"?

Sometimes sluggy days are necessary for the mental health. :-)

He's very interested in the University of Toronto, since we visited the campus last summer when we were there. We'll be checking out a couple of other colleges we've heard good things about in Canada, and one in Michigan and one in Connecticut as well. :)

Oooh, Connecticut? Um, hello! Which one, if I may ask?

Trinity...we have heard good things about it and it would be close to my sister

That's where I work, you know!

O! Haha! I KNEW it sounded familiar!

My eighteen-year old (in two weeks ) is already finished with school and, as of last week when exam results arrived, is off to live in Edinburgh for university. Other daughter already at Glasgow. Son still living at home, aged 22, still a student. What freaks ME out is that all the girls will one day be gone and he'll *still* be here!! Good luck!!

Wow, isn't it early to already be going off to university? I thought they mostly started in September! I've been trying to get Martin interested in Scotland, but he's resisting the UK for some reason, (which, ALSO FREE...or at least reimbursed!)

OOOOooo! Is Martin coming to Minnesota? Is he? Same weather...it will feel like home! Really!

Tom Cruise. I have mixed feelings. Still love Top Gun though. It might be because of my age when I first saw it. I suppose we should go see the next impossible mission. He was funny on Jimmy Fallan the other night when they had a lip synch war.

I don't want to think about my kids being gone. I cannot bear it!

I am still in my pajamas, but I am thinking about a shower. I began a book yesterday, and kind of want to read the next chapter...instead of the shower. Hmmmm.

Re: From Megsie

haha! Minnesota isn't on the list! He is looking at the University of Toronto and a couple of others. We shall see...nothing concrete has been done yet. :)

I have mixed feelings about Tom Cruise too...I never liked him all that much, but I like him in the MI movies. I'll have to go watch the Jimmy Fallon clip. Those lip synch battles are hilarious :)

It's funny because I am currently wondering if it's actually feasible to have Ingrid go to college in Sweden. It would be a huge shift for her, and of course she hasn't even started high school yet, but unless she gets a full scholarship, it's impossible to imagine how we could afford for her to go here.

Happy birtfay! I mean birthday of course but birtfay sounds fun as well. :) it's hard typing on a phone.... i feel old... come and unclutter my house for me? ;)

I also thought i was logged in. Geez. Technology!  It's kejn's house you need to unclutter. :)

I worded my reply badly! Results (and therefore definite acceptance at uni) were last week. She goes on about Sept 12th for Freshers' Week. I think as Scotland has a different system of applying fees from England/Wales/N Ireland it must look a bit confusing to people from outside the UK. OR maybe he just wants to live somewhere with an average temp of above 13 degreesC! ;-) (I refer to Aberdeen here: I think we have it pretty cold in summer!)

I seriously can't believe your kids are as old as they are. My kid is older than your kids were when we met, but still, it seems so strange. College!

E (8) had a lot of anxiety a few years ago about one day being old enough to move out and how she always wanted to be with us. Finally, M told her that she didn't have to. She can live with us forever. Now, he is thinking (and I am too) that when she gets old enough for this to be a possibility, she won't want to stay with us, but I am also thinking... what if she doesn't??? We told her she could stay. What if she is 42 and laying on my couch all day because my husband told her when she was five that she never had to move out??? So we'll see. I might end up in that situation. Thanks M. :)
