HOLES IN YOUR HEAD
Presents go a long way for making up for the fact that I just turned 40. Today at work my department gave me a lovely set of fat matte etched gold earrings. Only one problem: I have virgin lobes.

I'm not altogether sure why I've never gotten my ears pierced. I do know why I haven't gotten a tattoo: I'm a big wimp.

My mom doesn't have pierced ears either, and part of me thinks that it's cool. We have less holes in our heads than most people. :P I also know that I would spend a FORTUNE on earrings if I ever did pierce my ears, so in the interests of my budget I guess it's a good thing.

When I look at those two reasons in black and white, they don't seem very important. The pain one carries more weight, frankly. Maybe I'm just lazy. Maybe I'm just a subtle unconventional girl. Maybe I just don't care enough.

I vaguely remember my sister getting in a fight with my dad where he almost ripped an earring out of her ear (I think she was trying to get away from him, but I don't remember the details), and one of my bosses at First Chicago grossed me out completely because she had worn heavy earrings for so long that her pierce holes were more like slits and they were LONG and her ears were dragged down. ick!

Bummer though, because the earrings were really gorgeous. If someone wants to get me a big, sparkly set of diamond solitaires, I might be persuaded to finally do it, though, cuz I'm easy that way...if not cheap.

earrings

I too have never put the holes in my ears. I think it would hurt! And I've always been a wimp about even trying to help my daughters put earrings in. At one point, when I was pregnant with my son(28yrs ago) I thought I was going to do it and get small diamond posts that I would always leave in, but I chickened out.

I think un-pierced ears are great!! The better to bite, massage or suck on without jewelry in the way !lol

Ah, but sometimes I long for ear adornment. I have found some hoops that stay on without feeling like they are piercing them. Do you ever wear earrings of the non-pierced variety?

Can you exchange the earrings for something else wonderful?
You co- workers never noticed? obviuosly....

Re: earrings

Good point about the biting, nibbling, etc. :)

I have tried clip and screw-on earrings and they just PINCH...I always have to talk them off fairly quickly. The only kind I've ever found that I can wear (and I forget about them all the time) is the kind of ear clasp that slides down over the rim of your ear and sort of rests around the side. The only problem is that my hair gets tangled and caught in them very easily.

My boss is returning them and getting a gift certificate this weekend so I can choose something else from the jewelry store. :)

Re: earrings

wah-hoo!! a gift certif!!

I also could never use screw ons or clips ons until I happened on a certain new clasp/brand...unfortunaely I can not remember the brand.. anyhow, I can wear them for about two or three hours :) a less sensitive ear (I'm the worst!) could probably take these for longer. They don't pinch!! amazing but true.

I don't have pierced ears either.Maybe the earrings could be converted to clip-on or screwback style? Good luck.

They're being exchanged for a gift certificate so I can pick out something I like :)

Sounds like a lovely present! Too bad they didn't notice you didn't have pierced ears. Maybe they thought you didn't wear earring because you didn't have any, and that's why they got them for you! :)

My ears were pierced for a month. Infection set in and I let them close permanently. Some friends gave me a gorgeous pair of Celtic knot-design earrings from Ireland - with French hooks so there's no hope for them. Sigh.
It's interesting - the more people I communicate with online, the more I find a lot of women besides me have hole-free ear lobes.

P.S. My boyfriend has more earring holes than I do!

I have pierced ears, but they are very sensitive. The Boyfriend - who used to have pierced ears - recommended Claire's Solution for when they break out, and it works wonders! But I have to wear really good stuff - like diamond studs that I can wear for months - or earrings with big hooks that don't have a clasp on the back.

Today I am wearing funky beaded Native American earrings in a big teardrop shape. I love them!

I hope you get some great jewelry with your gift certificate.

You can get most earrings changed into clip-ons for a nominal fee at a jewelers.

Also, I know it's rube-ish of me, but I always feel like I'm going to hurl when I see the many folks in town with those giant stretched out earlobes with an empty hoop through with a kitten could leap. ::shudder::

I don't think it's rube-ish of you at all, it looks AWFUL!
