DOING THE MATH
I'm tired so often, especially in the spring and summer. It's not just work. It's not just the full calendar. In fact, I think I've figured out what the problem is...this is a typical weeknight and each one of these things wakes me up a little bit more.

2:00 a.m.Anders finally comes to bed
3:30 a.m.Karin comes shuffling in, curls up on the floor/bench/end of the bed
4:00 a.m.Sun brightens up, birds start their early morning calisthenics
5:15 a.m.Have to pee
6:00 a.m.Anders' alarm goes off
6:45 a.m.MY alarm goes off but I haven't been really asleep since 2 a.m.

sigh

My French colleague is in Lund this week, and we had a laugh this afternoon when she came in and said "Bonjour!" to me. For a moment, I thought she was speaking Swedish (which she doesn't know), and I heard "Bond djur" and for the life of me I couldn't figure out what pigs and cows had to do with anything.*

Cracking Me Up: Fortune Teller

Of all the wonderful tributes to mothers yesterday, this one really touched me: Mother Love

*Bonjour in French, for those who might not know, is Good Day, and bond djur in Swedish is, literally, farm animal(s).

"Bond djur" LOL!! That cracked me up!

What's Anders doing, going to bed so late?

That's his modus operandi, unfortunately. He needs less (much less) sleep than I do to function, although he DOES have a tendency to catnap in the evenings, so he rarely comes to bed before midnight. He gets up early, even on weekends, too.

I bet that was the first time ever you recorded in your journal that you had to pee :)

LOL Maybe. Maybe not! :P

Giggling madly at the language story. ;-)

My sympathies on the sleep situation. Fred also tends to stay up until the wee hours -- I conk out between 10 and 11 (or at least, try to), but he won't call it a night until 1 a.m. at the earliest, and often several hours later than that. The odd thing is, he runs on perhaps two hours of sleep per night, during his work week, and manages just fine, but if he doesn't have to get up for work, he'll sleep for 14 hours straight (getting him up at 11 a.m. every Sunday, in order to go down to Boston for dinner with his family, is a major undertaking). Me, I need at least 7 hours, and ideally, 9, in order to function at work.

I'm the same way, 7-9 hours is really essential for me to be functioning at my best. I get REALLY cranky when I'm stretching out on less sleep.

Holy moses, how on earth does he copy on four hours of sleep! I would LOVE to be able to do that. Just think how much more you'd get done! Poor you though...

And that is a fabulous post on mothers, thanks for sharing.

You sound like me. Well, except the reason why I am up so much is because the Big Swede SNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORES! and very loudly I might add. I have started wearing earplugs.:-)

LOL! My dad used to snore super loud, too. But I found when I moved out that I missed it, and it took me awhile to be able to get to sleep in the quiet! It's not so much a problem to FALL asleep, but staying asleep with a series of things that disturb/wake me is a real challenge.

Thank you for linking "Mother Love" it was so touching.

To add to the list.
Our younger cat seems to think at 4:13 am, that it's time to groom & purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr by my head.

sleep = whipped cream!!

Sending you lots and lots and lots of whipped cream for some sweet deep sleep-- you DESERVE it!!!!

*hugs* Bluepoppy

He only gets 4 hours of sleep? How does he survive on that? I need at least 8-9 hours of sleep, but since I'm a night owl, I go to bed around 2am, and get up at 10, or something like that.

Beats me how he does it, to be honest.
