I love cool weather. Cool weather with sunshine. Warm enough to be outside, but cool enough to warrant a sweater. Leaves dropping to lie in scuffilicious piles. Clouds meandering like sky sheep, grazing over the blue. Flags snapping lazily in the barest of breezes. Heavy laden fruit trees. Haybales glowing in the sunshine. The delicious anticipation of the autumn leaves turning to flame.

by Elizabeth Slaughter-Ek

There is good in every thing,
When the wind begins to sing,
The pumpkin grows
and your breath shows
The scent of cider in your nose.

There is good in every time.
The trees begin their orange-red rhyme.
The geese fly vvvvv's
before the freeze,
Mittens on hands around your knees.

Summer puts itself to bed,
Sweet dreams of sunshine in your head
to keep you warm
wait out the storm
As seasons spiral round in form.

Saw your Permalink right before mine, so I jumped on over here. :) Really like this, Liz! I especially love the imagery of the last line...since reading it I realized that I tend to think of seasons passing in a linear fashion. :)

Thank you! :) It's easy to think of them as happening in a linear fashion, I agree, but as the years pass and I swing through the seasons I have started to see the circularity of it all. :)

Lovely poem. It captures exactly how I've been feeling the last couple of days...putting summer to bed and starting to notice the "orange-red rhyme" on the trees.

Thank you :) I wrote it for a woman who told me she "hated" fall. I was flabbergasted, since it's my favorite.

Is that me? ;-) I love your poem though!

haha! No, it wasn't you :)

I like this - captures the feeling of different seasons well.

very nice!

Thanks! :)

The past few days I started thinking about the upcoming change of seasons myself, and I look forward to autumn. I really like your poem!

Thank you :)

also, I love your userpic!

That was seasonal yumminess - another lizalicious post!

aw! thanks, sweetie! :)

Mmmmm, autumn. What a delicious poem, especially "summer puts itself to bed." Just perfect, Liz!!
