A DOUBLE HANDFUL OF THINGS I'M THINKING ABOUT THESE DAYS
  • Salad's not so bad, if you add lots of things you like to it.

  • That wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be, why the hell didn't I start this sooner? I'm STOKED.

  • Martin starts piano lessons this week. Does this mean we have to get a piano? Good god, where would we put it??

  • Karin wants to take karate lessons. Why am I not surprised?

  • WHY doesn't LJ let you search for communities?

  • Why are some of the books I read as a child and loved not nearly as great as I remember them when I read them to my children? At least in this case, it seems it is just that it was my adult perspective and the advancements of the last 40 years as well as my parental experience getting in the way of my enjoyment of the story: the kids had no problem with it at all and were riveted most of the way through. We just finished reading The True Story of Okee the Otter and I had to continually bite my tongue against berating the author for things she did and expected of a wild animal in her home.

  • Trying to organize a clothing swap with a bunch of lady friends to nail down a date and time is like herding cats. Scratch that, cats would be easier.

  • Is it worth being bothered by the fact that someone I thought was turning into a good online friend, who closed down an excellent blog after a year, and who recently started a new one, didn't let me know, despite the fact that the new blog links to me? Is that weird or just par for the course when it comes to online relationships?

  • The Mutts comics feed has apparently been closed down. Waah!

  • It's starting to look like we might be going to the States this spring! Yeeha!

I have eaten about five salads in the past three weeks, and when I say five, I don't mean five servings, I mean five *bowls* of salad that I made for leaving in the fridge and contained a head of lettuce each. So, yes. I am in agreement that salad's good.

That's not really why I commented, though. I was just going to theorize that if s/he is still linking to you, s/he probably meant no insult in not letting you know that s/he's blogging again. Do you still talk to the person regularly? I guess that might make it a touch weirder. I might feel funny in that situation to email all my previous blog readers individually if I started a new blog after an absence. Maybe not. And maybe s/he did email you, say, to an old email address? Or.. maybe not. Just an idea. :)

No, I don't talk to him/her regularly...the message given when the blog was closed down was that s/he wasn't going to be online anymore. I can certainly understand the pull to return, but I just thought it was strange. If s/he is still reading, but never commenting anymore...what's up with that? Suppose I'll have to ask if I really want to know. I'm very glad that s/he is back, though. I thought the blogosphere a poorer place for his/her absence. (sorry for the gender obfuscation!)

You know what else is awesome (particularly for losing a few pounds)except for salads? SOUP, hearty, meaty, veggie, chowders - not so much, but beans, lentils all kinds of niceties. I love it because you can eat fairly generous portions.

Where in the States?

Detroit area, and then Boston area. :)

Martin starts piano lessons this week. [..] Karin wants to take karate lessons.

In case you do get a piano, I hope she won't practise the karate chop onto it. :-)

-"I'm warning you Colombo! I'm an expert on the karate chop!"
-"The only chops you know are the ones you stuff in your fat face!"

Karin + karate = no surprise!

The Phantom Tollbooth is nowhere near as good as I remember it!

Really? That one was a favorite and have re-read it several times, even as an adult, although it's been years since the last time.

WHY doesn't LJ let you search for communities?

But it does but it's tricksy... you have to search by "Interest" ;-)

You're coming to the US?! Great!!! I don't guess you'll come near where I am but do keep us posted as your plans take shape!

I hope so. Working out the details now in the hopes that it will all come together :)

a bunch of lady friends to nail down a date and time is like herding cats. Scratch that, cats would be easier.

they wouldn't have children would they? Those time heavy and diverse creatures that gnaw away at free time like ADD otters in a balsa wood forest....

Kids, schmids. Half of them are bringing their kids, so that's not necessarily it. I think, in this day and age, trying to find a time/date that works for ANY large group of people is nearly impossible! Everyone is so busy!

A clothing swap can be so much fun. I hope you get a date figured out. I know what it's like to do that.

And salad..... How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My teeth can chew…
I love thee to the level of everymouths
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as women strive for greens;
I love thee purely, as I turn from mush.
I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old smoothies, and with my pudding too.
I love thee with a dressing I seem to remember
With pine nuts and red onion, --- I love thee with the red lettuce,
arugula, spinach, and the longing of my last three months! --- and, if Goddess choose,
I shall but love thee better after teeth.

Yay for salad poetry! And YAY FOR TEETH! :B

Yeah, salad is pretty good, if you put meat, cheese, and dressing all over it. Scratch that: salad is pretty good, if you put a pizza on it :)

It's difficult to find a date, it's true. But declare a date, if nothing else. Those who can make it, can. Those who can't, can schedule their own :)

Date's set: this Sunday. The time however is up for grabs. Some are coming at 10, some at 1. Come with Geena :)

Ahh....salad. Lettuce move on before I get a dressing down. I am actually a big lover of salad and we eat it every day. In winter, I often make soups, especially spicy lentil type of soups which are enhanced by eating a lovely crisp salad with them. I think if you choose vegetables that are visually appealing it makes a huge difference.

If you carrot all about me, you won't start punning! Too late! haha! Well, you know I am un-beet-able.

I've found that having things like artichoke hearts or avocado or pine nuts helps a lot. When it's just tomato and cucumber I get tired of it really quickly.

Mmmmm...soup!

Yay for Lizardek on our shores in the Spring! As for online friendships...don't take it too hard...they're not that different from 'real life' friendships after all. ;)

I love salads though I tend to not want to make them in the winter. As for your blog friend....I've done that in the past and the reason I did it was because I got tired of some people on my friend list. Now I'm not worried about add/deleteing people. I had to move past that lol. I'm sure it had nothing to do with you though. Oh, can't you get just a keyboard instead of a piano? My niece has one to practice on.

Re: oh yes-- US

You know it!! I will email you as soon as I have solid details!! :) YAY!

Salatssss

Hey - Tip from Simone´s Salads (salats in German)
Cut up Apples or Pears - walnuts, or other Nuts. Mandarin Orange Slices,

another great tip is to search the Oil section of the grocery store and look for something differnt instead of only Olive Oil - very popular here in Germany and Austria is Pumpkin seed oil!!! I have also found Walnut and Avocado Oil which help to make yummy dressings. Call Simone to get her tips on making the dressing from scratch, she does it every day....

One problem with the states trip is - I cannot go in April....look for me to visit Lizardfamily in May/June stateside. maybe Sweden later in Summer, (most likely alone while Simone has very few vacation days, and I already have about 40 to use....)

- just ended a long week of tradeshow so will update familymail later.

Re: Salatssss

Walnut and Avocado Oil sounds really good. I will have to see if I can find something like that here.

As to the amount of Olives one should eat, I think 10 is finger licking good!!!!! WAHAHAHA
Then the Trip is a YAY but Rachel is in school then so maybe not so good for us either. : (

Just get a key board for Martin they slide easily under a bed and Rachel and Bryce BOTH want karate lessons but as for now they are taking Baseball this spring which starts in April or May.

*snort* :D olive-head.

Doesn't she get any break for Easter?? At least the long weekend??

We're borrowing a keyboard from my friend Debbie. I don't know if it comes with a stand or what. :)
