TURN TURN TURN
I read 118 books in 2007, an average of 9.8 books per month. I've increased the total number of books every year since I started keeping track, from 104 to 110 to 113 in the past three years. I don't know if I'm getting faster at speed-reading or if the books are smaller. Though some of the books I read this year could totally be used in house-building as bricks, so I don't think that's it.

Best books of 2007 (in no particular order and including no re-reads):

The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
The Liar's Club by Mary Karr
A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin
Mystic and Rider books by Sharon Shinn
Spoken Here by Mark Abley
Something Rising (Light & Swift) by Haven Kimmel
Evidence of Things Unseen by Marianne Wiggins
Niagara Falls All Over Again by Elizabeth McCracken
The Abhorsen series by Garth Nix

I can't list the best films that I saw this year because they were so few. It's a sad thing to admit that I so rarely see movies anymore and when I do, they are invariably child-friendly or several years old.

Family highlights of 2007:

Anders getting a new job
Karin starting karate
Martin starting piano
Taking the family to the States for Easter
Celebrating my sister's wedding
Martin entering double digits
Getting new family portraits taken
Karin conquering the track on her mini motorcycle
Visits from John and Lizardmom
Buying new furniture, building a porch and revamping the front garden
Getting through Lizardmom's cancer scare

Personal highlights of 2007:

Losing 13.5 kilos (pre-Christmas-cookies)
Completely overhauling the AWC Malmö website
Becoming a "published" author :)
Meeting bluepoppy and mytopography and the Brombie Mob at Soliden
Meeting up with thistimearound, e11en, and sealwhiskers in person
Getting serious about recycling

Best musical discoveries of 2007:

Calaisa
K.T. Tunstall
Corinne Bailey Rae
Hoobastank
Jann Arden
Anna Nalick
Vienna Teng
Jamie Cullum
Katy Pfaffl
Avocado Club
Anne Heaton

Some manageable goals for 2008:

Start art again!
Travel to Prague
Lose another 25 pounds
 accomplished
mood: accomplished
music: Peter Cincotti—On the Moon

Taking notes of your reading list, because with a television and computer free house, I plan to get lots of reading done.

25 lbs?! Really! That's great. I knew you had lost weight, but not this much. Congratulations and much luck reaching your goals!

Well, this month has been a wash, what with the metric ton of cookies I've eaten and all the holiday feasting, but that's okay, it's time to get serious again :)

lizardek for president!

I've said it before, I'll say it again-- I'd totally vote for you to run this country-- but if that doesn't interest, howz about coming round and sorting out my life for me??

Kudos to a year of MAJOR accomplishments-- you have so much to be proud of!!

Bisous, bp

Re: lizardek for president!

hahaha! I could make a fortune organizing other people's lives, I suspect :) And you know I'd love to come and visit, whether to organize or not!

You're welcome! If you want to see the entire list of what I read this year: www.lizardek.com / spotlight / click on my face / reading / 2007

I'm still trying to wrap my head around you reading 118 books in a year... Hey, I just remembered to tell you...Carolyn's there visiting Katie right now! :) Happy New Year, you...to you and all of yours. Hope 2008 is FABULOUS!!! xoxo

She is? I saw Katie on Friday and she didn't say a word about Carolyn...I wonder if she'll still be here this weekend, as she's hosting a get-together. :)

I think she was going to Paris first for a few days (she left on the 26th) and then heading to Sweden...maybe she wasn't in Sweden yet when you saw Katie.

I wish I was going to Paris for a few days! :D
