NOTHING MUCH TO SAY BUT I'M SAYING IT ANYWAY
It's a crazy week ahead so I'm pretty glad that today was pretty relaxed. I did some stuff around the house and ran a couple of errands but nothing much, mostly I was reading and recording music and playing computer games. I have something every evening in the week coming up until Friday night: taking Karin to karate tomorrow and walking, AWC meeting on Tuesday, choir on Wednesday and book group on Thursday.

We're done with the Lord of the Rings. We finished the last hour and a half on Friday night; I let the kids stay up ungodly late to finish watching the whole thing and also so that they could be awake when Anders arrived from the airport after being gone all week. :) Karin was wiping away tears at the ending when Frodo is saying goodbye to his friends before he sails for the Grey Havens with Gandalf and the elves. "So, it's NOT a happy ending after all?!" she said in tones of the utmost betrayal. Next up: Alice in Wonderland, Edward Scissorhands and Stardust.

You know what the best thing about the upcoming week is? It's not the fact that I'll have a massage on Tuesday or sushi for dinner or that I get to see friends and talk about books or even that I get to sing some spring songs...it's the fact that February ENDS THIS WEEK. I was beginning to think it would never happen.

What about you? What are you looking forward to?

Egypt, less than 2 weeks now, I'll be in Egypt!

Wait, February ends this week? I thought today was the 56th of January...

(We're supposed to get MORE snow tomorrow. This is ridiculous!)

ooo Stardust ooo!

In the summer, I leave the balcony door open for ambient sound, but during the winter, the apartment can be too quiet, in a lonely sort of way; I tend to put on a DVD for an illusion of company. Stardust is currently my favorite "oh, just pop it in the player and let it run while I'm working on this project" movie*.

*Past films in this category: original Star Wars, The Hunt for Red October, and 1776. I know, it's a weird assortment.

Do you know, I think I would have LOVED it when I was a teenager, but my main reaction was "meh." I thought they could have done better, frankly, though I know my kids will enjoy it, and Michelle Pfeiffer was superbly gleeful in her role.

I think it's not so much the film itself, for me, as the associated pleasant memories -- we caught it on the big screen, on one of the rare 'date nights' that Fred and I had had in a while.

I did love the choreography that must have gone into the final swordfight -- the physical demands of the "hold various parts of body at impossibly uncomfortable angles, while parrying moves that cannot even be seen with Dead Prince's head in that position" work, must have been intense, even with supporting wires and the like.

That, and De Niro's performance of the Can-Can, which just about put us on the floor...

Racking my brains for things to look forward to, I decided to make something up and realize it. So, I'm looking forward to Wednesday morning. I've got two hours I can steal for myself, it looks like the sun might be out and I will try out some new watercolors.

Thanks for the inspiration ;-).

On Thursday I start physical therapy. Seeing that I've been weight bearing for almost a month, I should have done this, like, a month ago... Still, I finally made the appointment!

And, of course, if you thought this month too long....maybe it really is! that extra day can do it!
Something to look forward to? All the trips I'm planning this year, and the fact that Bluepoppy will be home when we're in the Boston area! Love, Lizardmom
