That lion statue is kinda cute! :)
I too like castles. Over the years I have visited quite a bunch in Belgium and my own country. How bout Sweden, are there a lot of castles and large mansions to visit there? One day I hope to be able to visit a few in Great Britain - for instance the ones used to film the BBC Pride&Prejudice serie! :)

There are quite a few castles around Sweden, but the vast majority of them are really big estates or houses, they're not always very romantic-looking. There's a really nice one quite close to us, though. It's still a family home, so as far as I know it's not open for visits, though you can drive by and see quite a bit of it from the road: Skarhult.

Wow. That castle looks so fun. I have never seen one in person, but I bet it makes you feel like a princess when you are in one. Even one that is missing a wall. Those cave art drawings are so beautiful as well. Caves are wonderfully mysterious. We have many around the Mississippi river and I have toured a couple, one on a Halloween tour. It was called the Tunnel of Terror...yikes!

Re: From Megsie

We toured a lot of the caves around Missouri and Mississippi years ago. Probably why I'm claustrophobic now, hahaa!

Björn still has to do the journal entry about our visit to Kalmar Castle.

Like you, I love visiting castles. I want them to be as close to how they were "then" as possible so that I can imagine living there. (Sometimes I try to feel like the queen felt, sometimes like a serving wench.)

If you haven't visited Kalmar Castle (and I'm pretty sure you have) I really recommend it.

I HAVE been to Kalmar castle, but it was ages ago, and I feel the need to go again, sometime soon! :)

It's kind of depressing to think that there wasn't anything much between queen and serving wench for women's roles back then.

Holy history! And yikes, is that roof safe? Where are the hardhats.

I have never been in a castle. Never. A cave once.

Never been in a castle? That's SO SAD!! Get your butt over here, STAT!

Wow, how cool!

It was! And VERY cool in the caves during a hot day :)

"they spark all kinds of imaginative scenes, no matter how young or old you are."

So true. Despite the bevvy of discomforts in reality, castles always seem like dream homes. When I discovered that Enya lives in a castle, all sorts of beautiful images filled my head. (Not so much when finding out Michael Flatley lives in one too.)
Now which is better: the intact, museum-turned castle or ruins?
