GOOD STUFF
Such clear skies tonight: frosty & chill and full of stars. The longer you stand on the frozen lawn looking up, the more stars appear in your vision. As if they're multiplying. As if they never end. "Mom," Martin asked me, just as we were walking back out the door after getting home, to enjoy the heavenly display for a few minutes longer, "when are the shooting stars again?"

"August and November," I answered. We still had our coats on, as we stepped from the door to the back yard. Just as we lifted our heads to the sky, all three of us gasped: a shooting star! Seriously, what are the odds?? We stood there for several minutes, pointing out constellations. I really only know Orion and the dippers, though I sometimes remember Cassiopeia as well. Martin knew the Crab, which I think might be the one I learned as the Scorpion that Orion is being chased by (although I could be misremembering my mythology and I don't feel like googling it right now).

One of the friends who was at dinner tonight, during a discussion of great band names that segued into the names of streets we had lived on, had a grandmother who lived on Black Velvet Lane somewhere in Florida. Isn't that awesome? That's what I kept thinking about as my sight reached upwards into that night sky. Black velvet, indeed.

I felt like a complete idiot tonight. All gung-ho for sushi night with friends at an excellent restaurant, and I didn't think to book a table. 1) because they only HAVE four tables and most people order take-out there and 2) because I'm positive the last time I scheduled an AWC sushi night at this place they didn't even take reservations. Guess they've gotten popular since then. Drrrr. Anyway, we still had sushi, but at a different restaurant, and it was MUCHLY inferior.

Ah well, the weekend, despite my husband still being out of town, is still jam-packed with good things. Sushi night with friends being one of them, even if the restaurant wasn't our first choice. The kids were on their best behavior and we had a shooting star, to boot. Plus we bought the first season of Glee and watched the pilot episode just now: good stuff. I love that all those great old songs that I grew up with and loved when young are being made fresh and new for this generation of kids.

Tomorrow we're going to our new Canadian friend Catherine's house, right here in Flyinge, for dinner and to watch the Melodifestivalen final with her and her husband Nik and their Canadian cat Sasha. Fun! And on Sunday we're going to paint murals at Martin's school (Swedish theme: moose and dala horses and knäckebröd) and then to see Alice in Wonderland in English and 3D.

And, of course, sleeping in!

I hope your weekend has got some good things in it. What ingredients add up to a good stuff weekend for you?

From Megsie

I am jealous of your stars. We have had RAIN all week. Thunderstorms. Fog. I long for the sun. This weekend we have a cookie booth to look forward to (NOT). I am looking forward to yoga tomorrow. I didn't like it much when I started because I was so weak and tight, but now that I am better at it, it makes my weekend.

Re: From Megsie

We've had rain, freezing rain, sleet, black ice, fog and grey boring skies all week. Last night it was so clear and beautiful and now, the sun is peeking out! Hurrah!

How can you not look forward to a COOKIE booth?! NOM!

You sure do have a bunch of fun things scheduled! My week-end has involved transferring my email account..(several hours!)-not so fun with dial-up, as it's so slow. And the unhealthy urge to fill up on popcorn for dinner. So tomorrow is getting back on the exercise & health road plus dinner at a favorite gourmet spot with my Mom. Love, Lizardmom

Where did you transfer it to? Did you get a new one?? Mmmm...popcorn. Hey! It's vegetarian! Say hi to Grandma :)

Same email- ATT was reorganizing their worldnet customers- ending it and transferring all to something new- it was confusing, and took forever thanks to my dial-up! But at least the India call center had someone who spoke good english and was patient! So I got through it- otherwise all my email addresses, etc would be lost forever! OR so I think- after the end of the month when it will all die if not moved correctly - when we'll know for sure! Love, Lizardmom

Sounds like life is very good, Liz. I'm glad.

If my husband were home, it would be just right :)

Our weekends always start with fredagsmys - which for us is a taco dinner while watching På Spåret and then a bag of chips (yummmmm CHEEZCRUNCHERS) and a movie. Saturday morning it's Melodikrysset and then puttering which whatever we feel like (or must - today it's packing for a trip to Stockholm for me). Sunday is usually more puttering (although tomorrow is a day on the train for me). I LOVE our (non-working) weekends.

It cracks me up that you love På Spåret! I'm excited that Så Ska Det Låta is starting up again!

In your dreams!

Apparently the good stuff this weekend was to sit on my butt and read a trashy vampire novel. Yesterday I wasn't feeling up to par and so that is what I did. I didn't even go for my walk, although I did meander into the back garden for a bit, chilly but sunny. Hopefully today I will get out.

DO tell about Alice in 3D. I have heard mixed reviews and am pondering whether the time and money investment is worth it. Maybe I will wait until it comes to the cheap theater unless I hear a couple of good personal reviews.

I was mistaken, it WASN'T in 3D, but it was BRILLIANT, nonetheless. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Shooting stars + sushi = some of the finer things in life for sure!

You bet :) Plus good movies and shows to watch. Now I'm fighting with my daughter and debating whether to KILL HER and hide the body. Or maybe I'll just ship her to you. What do you think?

Oh please ship her my way! We'd have fun together.

Actually--SERIOUSLY--when they're a tad bigger, I am so game for that!

I wouldn't mind a weekend of shooting stars and sushi either! At least I DID get a delicious dose of Wonderland. (For those who are curious -- We too had heard mixed reviews on the 3D version, but the friends we went with insisted... and the 3D experience was completely worth the occasional dizziness and sore eyes.)
