lizardek's obiter dictum lizardek Home Now Then Friends Info Ek Family
zird is the word [userpic]
My husband, who has been working in the garage for a few hours, came in to the kitchen while I was preparing a plate for my dinner (both kids are out tonight). "Oh, is it still leftovers?" he asked. I gave him the hairy eyeball. Has he not looked in the refrigerator?? We have enough food to feed an army for a week. So, yes, leftovers again. Not that I'm complaining since I only get turkey sandwiches twice a year!

We had a major wind storm through southern Sweden last night (it was named Urd, which seems...odd, since that is definitely one Swedish name I have never 'urd of). Winds shook the house all night and howled through the trees. There was flooding along the coast, both in Malmö and even up in Gothenburg, plenty of trees down, and over a thousand people without power...thankfully not us.

I know I should have said more about this BEFORE Christmas, but because it was a Christmas gift, I couldn't really do it then, though I'm sure my family all had an idea of what was coming :) haha! I finished my cookbook project at the end of October and sent it to print. It was my present to my family members and some friends as well, and was very well-received, which made me happy since it was a real labor of love! If you would like to order a copy, let me know and I'll send you the link. You can buy it at cost (I don't make any revenue from the sale).

We bought a third car today. Used, for only SEK 1500. It's a 2003 Peugeot 206 and it's a manual drive. Anders bought it so that the kids can practice driving stick. They'll have to do it with him, though, as my driver's license is only for automatic cars! Heh. He asked if I wanted to re-learn how to drive stick and re-take my license but I said, "Nah, I'm good." It looks basically like this but in much worse condition. In fact, it has körförbud (driving ban) as it didn't pass inspection and needs brake work and new lights and god knows what else. But Anders figured spending a couple of thousand on parts and fixing it up would be worth it. And then we'll have an extra car for the kid(s) later once they (or she) has their (or her) license(s)!

I am reading Franny and Zooey which I managed to never get around to back in high school or college. I DID read Catcher in the Rye at some point, but didn't like it. Franny was listed as an influential fictional female heroine in a book I read not too long ago, and it intrigued me enough to put it on my list. My mom got it for me for Christmas and so far it seems to be a short, zippy read.

Tomorrow, the kids and I are going to see Benedict Cumberbatch play Hamlet with my two best friends and their entourages (we are 10 people altogether). It's at least 3 hours and then we're going to dinner at an Asian buffet place (no leftovers, ha!). I need to get the AWC website finished and published, will work on that now, and then I'm going to take it easy for the rest of this kid-free evening!

I read Catcher in the Rye and didn't really understand why it was so controversial. Maybe I should re-read it now that I'm older. I read Franny and Zooey a few years ago and really disliked it. I kept reading to the end thinking there would be something but I didn't find it.

Congratulations on your successful recipe book. I kept a recipe book of our favourites when the kids were small... the recipe only got added to the book after we'd used it several times and it's great to refer back to. I made copies for all the grown-up kiddos last year and I hope it was as well-received as yours. (But mine was just an un-fancy photocopy.)

Sadly, I didn't like Franny & Zooey either... it's VERY dated, and I don't understand why people consider Franny a heroine in anyway. She spends the entire book being bitchy, crying or fainting.

Ha, ha! If it had been me, he might have been wearing that plate of food instead of eating it :)

*groan* Of course you've never 'urd of the name - it's a Norwegian storm!

I know that you have a "To read" list as long as mine, but a couple of books you might like:
Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey
A House Without Windows by Nadia Hashimi
My Fight/Your Fight by Ronda Rousey
The Girls of Atomic City by Denise Kiernan

Oooh, thanks! Heading off to check out the books!

From Megsie

Well, our furnace went out two days ago. We got a new one installed today. My feet are cold, but otherwise we didn't really freeze. We turned the oven on and that seemed to keep us in the 60 degree range, thank goodness. The workmen just left and the new furnace is slowly heating up the house. We are now at 67 degrees. As stated in my (late) comment on your "HoHoHo" post, I am still in my pajamas. I have read the introduction at the beginning of The Great Gatsby, and I have put down the book. I am looking at Hillbilly Elegy, and Spare Parts and Book Love... I am not sure which one to read. I know I will only get through one, if that. So. I have been reading about Carrie Fisher. So sad. Now, I either need to 1. Make a list of "to do" for school or 2. Clean up this messy house or 3. Figure out the printer that Santa brought or 4. Take a shower or 5. Begin one of those books... Hmmmm.

Re: From Megsie

This whole year was sad, both because of celebrity hero deaths and because of the entire election debacle.

I hope you picked #5! haha!

Snappy looking car! I assume by the their or her- Karin is much more interested in getting her license! Martin does need to get it before he heads off to college -so hope he finds time to fit that into his schedule. Too bad I'm not in Sweden- I love leftovers! Love, Lizardmom

I hope he does too, considering that he HAS no schedule at the moment.

Martin still has the first half of 2017 to get his license but depending upon what/where he ends up next, it could wait. I didn't get my license until I was 22 because I didn't need it while I was in college. Good luck on getting the Peugeot in working condition!

Martin has the rest of his life to get his license, but I am only willing to pay for it for a limited time. I didn't get my license until I was 22 either!

The cake on the previous post looks YUMMY but my kids would NEVER go for those toppings.... The car is a great idea... we have the same issue here with Licensing except it is Danely not caring and Bryce who cannot wait...

How was Hamlet? I just read that Geneaology just proved that Bennedict is distantly related to the original author of the Sherlock Holmes book..... Thought it was a neat fact...

Bryce just had to read Catcher in the Rye... he HATED it and grumped the whole time about how awful it was.:)

Happy New Year!!!
