LIGHTING THINGS UP
This has been a majorly NON-SLUG weekend here at Chez Ek. Anders, who has apparently been replaced by a pod person, went out yesterday and bought outdoor lights and HUNG THEM ALL ALONG THE FRONT EDGE OF THE HOUSE. He was too funny, because he came in to the bedroom on Saturday morning, where I was still lolling reading, and asked me if he could get one of these. Apparently they sell them here in Sweden, now. Guess who got the hairy eyeball THIS time? :D

He had no intention of actually buying one, though, and proceeded to look up nice, plain, white strings of lights. I badgered him to at least give in and get colored lights, alas, to no avail. I had a huge long list of things to get done yesterday, not least of which was decorating the inside of the house. I did that, in between three loads of laundry, writing our Christmas letter, preparing Christmas cards, cleaning, etc. We aren't getting the tree until next weekend (hopefully), so still have that to decorate, but expect my daughter to recruit some friends to possibly help with that monster job since I will be busy laying around recuperating from surgery, and directing where ornaments go from the confines of the couch.

I've also gotten the majority of the gifts I needed to purchase done already, so am feeling VERY ahead of the game, considering it's only the 2nd day of December. Still have my kids, my mother-in-law and stocking stuffers to deal with, but I'm glad to be ahead since I figure the next two weeks are basically shot due to the surgery and recovery.

The lights in the windows and along the houses make everything so much brighter. It's candle time, cozy time, thank goodness, because outdoors it's cold, sodden, chill, wet and rainy. I hope we'll get some snow this year to help brighten things up even more, but that brings with it a load of other problems, so...

I just talked to my mom for an hour and still have to call my sister (and her daughter to wish her a belated happy birthday), and then Martin, after Anders gets home. I miss my family even more than usual this time of year. Holidays are hardest when the people you love are far away. Thank goodness Martin will be home for Christmas, or I don't think I could stand it!

Ha, ha ... Anders in touch with his inner Clark Griswold. I love it. I don't think that he can compete with Thomas just yet. L-G had to lie down for several hours with a bag over his head when he saw that clip.

Coloured lights? A travesty in Sweden from what L-G says. We have coloured lights in Australia (and flashing ones too), but then it's high summer there and you'd not see white lights. I just know that when I arrived here and asked why there were no coloured lights, the entire family turned on me like a mongoose who's spotted a snake. I kept my mouth shut on that topic after that reception.

Good luck getting an 18 year old to decorate the tree. Though playing the invalid card might swing it. I can hear her already "Isn't there an app for that?" and if you pressgang her into it, you might have to mutter this mantra while she does it.

You sound really organised and ready for Christmas and of course seeing Martin again. I hope everything goes really well this week and that you actually can enjoy taking some REAL slug time on the sofa with several good books.

LOL! We don't aspire to the title of julens hus in Sweden, but the house DOES look nice with the outline of lights along the roof! We DO have colored lights on the little bush out front AND on our Christms tree, and while they CAN be made to blink, we don't, since I hate that. :)

I feel pretty organized right now, but suspect that after surgery I may be flailing again toward the crunch.

Oh I remember when Aaron was gone to college and how it felt to miss him at Thanksgiving and to long for him to get home for Christmas.
There was one year when he said he thought he wouldn't be coming home. Laurel talked him into coming after all, but they didn't tell me & snuck him into the house for a surprise. There was a little subterfuge going on, Laurel offering to take Aaron's package to the post office, giving me change from the postage, etc...
I'm glad Martin gets to be home with you.

What a nice surprise that must have been! It's a little more difficult for us, since WE have to pay for Martin's ticket if we want him to come home, haha!

Yes, I had to pay for Aaron's ticket those first few years, and it was hard! though not nearly what you must be paying.
This must have been after Aaron graduated & was living & working on his own, maybe the first time he wasn't coming up.
It was an amazing surprise. I was convinced he wasn't coming because he didn't have to lie, he really wasn't coming when he talked to me about it.
That was the year I went on a 10 day vipassana course. Laurel talked him into coming after I left I think and so it all worked out very seamlessly. I think he drove up and hid his car around the corner.
They even wrapped him up in a big box, paper, bow, everything. An early gift they said. I had to open it right away. Haha...

You're soooo far ahead of me in being ready for the holiday. Not sure how I'm going to catch up with all the other appts. on my calendar. But I know somehow it all gets done. Love. Lizardmom

I'm ALWAYS ahead of you when it comes to being ready for Christmas, mom! haha! But you've got me beat by a million miles when it comes to sending cards the whole rest of the year, so.

Nothing like surgery to kick you into gear! I am not started. This should not surprise you. I started thinking about it today. MAYBE I will begin the letter. Or the cookies. Or wander onto Amazon. I am glad Martin will be home as well!
